The Family Forest Carbon Program Premium Option provides all the benefits of enrolling in our standard forest management practices, plus a 20% premium payment rate over the length of the 20-year contract. And if you meet the requirements for the Premium option, you gain access to beneficial funding sources that are offered and administered by the USDA.
What are the Benefits of Enrolling in FFCP with the Standard Option?
The standard benefits of the Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) include:
Guaranteed annual funding to help you reach your goals
An in-person consultation by a forest professional who provides expert guidance, support for developing a forest management plan customized for your unique goals, or help with updating an existing plan
Access to The Family Forest, a virtual community of passionate landowners who exchange ideas and knowledge
What are the Benefits of Enrolling in FFCP with the Premium Option?
If you have or are willing to obtain Farm & Tract Number (FTN) from your Farm Service Agency (FSA), you can enroll in FFCP with the Premium Option that provides:
An additional 20% in FFCP payment value over the enrollment period, with the largest payments received in the early years of enrollment
Obtaining an FTN number also provides you access to other beneficial programs from the USDA, such as the Emergency Forest Restoration Program, Forest Legacy Program, Healthy Forests Reserve Program, Farm Service Agency farm loans, disaster assistance programs, crop insurance, conservation and other programs offered and administered by the USDA
You can confirm your land’s eligibility for the Family Forest Carbon Program by selecting your property on the map at the Family Forest Carbon Program website. If eligible, you can schedule a call with a member of our team to learn more about the program and get answers to questions about the program’s requirements, benefits, and enrollment process.
During this call, we will review the benefits of the program and the additional step required to enroll in FFCP with the premium option. There is no obligation to move forward with enrollment in FFCP, either with or without the premium option, should you decide it is not the right fit for your land.
After receiving the enrollment offer, if you decide the premium option is a fit for you, you will approve your FFCP offer and sign the contract. Following enrollment, our team will help you schedule a free visit with an FFCP forest professional who will provide technical guidance, generate a management plan, and complete a land survey.
Our team will also help guide you through the process for obtaining a Farm & Tract Number (FTN), including connecting with your Farm Service Agency (FSA) office to complete the process to obtain your FTN. You will only be enrolled in FFCP, with or without the premium option, with your express permission.
The FFCP Premium Option provides a 20% higher payment rate, with 20% of total payments paid sooner.
How Do I Get an FTN?
The only additional requirement to enroll in FFCP with the premium option is to have or be willing to obtain a Farm & Tract Number (FTN). FTNs are numbers the USDA assigns to properties through the Farm Service Agency. They are assigned to each property, not the landowner, so they remain associated with a property even if the owner changes. The process to receive an FTN is free.
Members of FFCP team will provide you with FSA office contact information to schedule your FTN application appointment at your FSA office, and a list of the forms and identification that you will need to bring to the appointment. During the 30-60 minute appointment at your FSA office, the FSA agent will complete additional forms with you.

When we say we are selling “carbon," we’re not speaking literally. We don’t come to your property and extract a tonne of carbon, the element, put it in a box and ship it to a corporation. What we’re really selling is a claim — specifically, the claim that a tonne of carbon dioxide has been kept out of the atmosphere as a result of a specific action — in this case, a carbon program.
