Washington, D.C., January 14, 2025 – As part of its first Carbon Auction, the American Forest Foundation (AFF) announced today the launch of the auction’s Data Room, a new platform for prospective carbon credit buyers to access all due diligence materials on its Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP). The Data Room offers companies a more streamlined and transparent way to evaluate and buy carbon credits, providing a centralized resource and eight weeks for due diligence ahead of the auction on March 12-19.
“AFF works to unlock access to the voluntary carbon market for rural family forest owners who far too often miss out on opportunities to be part of our country’s conservation solutions,” said Rita Hite, president and CEO of AFF. “The auction and Data Room are the latest innovations in this effort, offering companies of all sizes – from global corporations to small businesses – the tools to make a transformative investment in rural America and the planet.”
Historically, buying carbon credits has been time consuming and challenging through bespoke processes where each company has their own unique due diligence requirements and projects deliver information by request. AFF has found that companies typically spend six to twelve months and considerable staff and consultant resources to collect and review materials. This long timeline has also left the carbon market with a major financing gap, with only 1.2% of the annual potential of nature-based solutions having been mobilized to date.
Now, through the American Forest Foundation Carbon Auction, companies can instead access due diligence materials in one centralized data room during an eight-week period. Available materials will include program and practice information, technical and science-based data, and commercial and partnership terms. Then, during the auction from March 12-19, companies can submit anonymous and competitive bids for future issuances of FFCP credits. The auction platform is built by the Data Economics Company (DECO) using its proprietary Lydion vault technology.
